During Sunday’s new episode of American Idol Season 21, judge Katy Perry lost a hair extension while rocking out to a contestant’s audition. Her fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie made the moment even funnier by turning the hair piece into a mullet.
Katy Perry Loses Hair Extension on American Idol
While contestant Madison Neisius rocked out on her guitar, Perry stood up for some headbanging. The motion ended up making one of her hair extensions fall out. As Perry joked, “I rocked and rolled too hard.”
Bryan didn’t miss a beat, picking up the piece of hair and sticking it on the back of his head to create a mullet. Perry then requested that he perform “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus. So Bryan grabbed Madison’s guitar and sang a few lines.
Even Richie got in on the fun, as Perry grabbed the hair extension and put it on the back of his head. Perry couldn’t stop laughing.
Apparently, a lot of contestants this season have sported a mullet. That includes Trey Louis, who received a Golden Ticket from the judges after sharing his story of surviving a school shooting.
Fans Love the Judges’ Chemistry
American Idol teased the funny hair moment in an Instagram post ahead of Sunday’s new episode. Several fans commented how much they enjoy the three judges together. User @ludgier even suggested that they have the “best chemistry” among the judges in the show’s history.
Other users made similar comments, with @lindacutaia writing, “Love love love these 3 judges together!! So great!” The show has featured the same judging panel for six seasons on ABC, and they seem to get along well. Long gone is the tension between former judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.
However, not everyone was amused by Perry’s hair-related mishap. User @hendstridge wrote simply, “Katy perry annoys me.” You can’t win them all.
